Grounded in Community. Growing Together.
Let's Talk About
Town Square
As I walk Ward 1 neighborhoods, one topic comes up again and again: Town Square. This is a project I’ve been following closely for years, and I hear the same questions you do: What’s happening? When will we see progress?
Gathering and evaluating information along with community engagement are at the heart of my profession as a librarian. Naturally, I wanted to dig into the data to better understand how Broomfield residents feel about this project, especially in Ward 1 where this project is located.
In the 2025 Community Survey detailed results, I looked at every mention of the Town Square project (including references to downtown, city center, and the old Safeway).
Here’s what you said:
Top Priorities
When asked about the top two or three issues Broomfield should address in the next 2–3 years, 409 responses (99 from Ward 1) mentioned Town Square.
-
Support is high: 86.6% of residents across Broomfield expressed excitement for the project, with even higher support in Ward 1 (94.9%).
-
Delays are the frustration: 171 people (41.8%) noted slow progress or development delays.

Right Direction/Wrong Track
When asked whether Broomfield is headed in the Right Direction or on the Wrong Track, 237 responses mentioned Town Square.
-
114 were from people who said Right Direction
-
123 were from people who said Wrong Track
-
Importantly, most Wrong Track comments were not opposed to Town Square itself but to the delays in getting it started. A smaller number of Right Direction comments also raised timeline concerns.
-
Overall, 92 out of 237 comments (38.8%) focused on delays rather than the development itself.
Hopes & Concerns
Beyond timing and levels of support for Town Square, residents shared a wide range of hopes and concerns:

The biggest frustration is not the project itself but the lack of visible progress.
-
Residents are eager to see a downtown space that reflects Broomfield’s character: community-focused and vibrant.

Thoughtful research, listening to the community, and transparency are what I’ll bring to serve you on Council.
Notes
Current Broomfield City Council has approved everything needed for the developer to move forward with the Town Square project.
The construction planning and financing is in motion and we could see groundbreaking at the old Safeway as soon as August 2026.
If you are interested in learning more about what is happening with Town Square watch the City Council meeting Tuesday, September 23rd starting at 3min 15sec for the most recent status update from the developer.
